I’d point out 99% of the time a bank reserve doesn’t give a bank the ability to purchase or lend.

The bank has the ability to do that with or without bank reserves.

And arguably more so with tbills vs bank reserves.

How would you define “money printing?”

If you want to consider printing bank reserves as printing $ then you have to subdivide money printing into 2 categories

1. Increases base money/broad money (US 2020/21)

2. Increases base money (Japan)

There was a huge difference between these 2 outcomes from “money printing”

It’s only important to know the difference between “money printing” and the Fed expanding its BS if you want to predict the odds of inflation (and to what degree), gold, dollar, treasuries, stocks, real estate, GDP, and understand money/banking.

Outside of that it’s irrelevant.
