It's warbler time here! A Yellow-rumped Warbler looking absolutely excellent

The Gray Catbirds are back! Well at least one of them anyway. It was super hungry after a long migration.

I finally got a good look at one of the male Eastern Towhees visiting the yard!! They sit out there in the bushes and call over and over but often I can't see them at all. But after stealthily easing out the back door I was able to spot this one, calling from a plum tree.

The Tree Swallows are back with their crisp whites and iridescent blues! And also their speedy, swooping flight. Standing there on the boardwalk they were zipping past me at incredible speed. Bugs beware!

A woodpecker's beak has many uses, including some very loud drumming at this time of year. Featuring a variety of woodpeckers doing their thing, including the powerful Pileated and adorable Downy.

I watched a couple of these chickadees zipping around chasing each other yesterday. Territorial dispute? Courting? Argument over who's cuter? Hard to say

This hawk stopped me in my tracks. It was perched directly above the path I was walking! I've taken that path hundreds of times and definitely never seen that before. It was looking intently into the surrounding plants at a possible meal.

Walked out my back door and spotted this little one, just like that! It's a Blue-headed Vireo and a new bird for me!! It zipped around grabbing bugs in this tree for a while. #lifer

First bats of the season!! And a beautiful moon!

Please take a spring walk with me. I meet the tiniest, cutest snake! And lots of birds of course. Plus hear the American Toads singing.

Eastern Towhees in the yard!! There were at least two adult males out there yelling 'treeeeet' & occasionally 'drink you teaaaa.' Their sounds are so loud and clear I hear them easily from inside the house. Which makes it hard to get anything else done besides look for towhees.

This tiny Garter Snake made my day today! So teeny but so bold and curious.

Apparently it's International Beaver Day! I'll take any excuse to post about the one time I've been close to one. This beaver came up out of the water near me while I was filming birds. It was HUGE!

Time for a beach trip filled with birds. Check out one of my favorite places on the coast, Barnegat Lighthouse State Park in New Jersey.

Birds have impressive vision to help them fly, hunt and also not be caught. Check out some of their abilities and their fascinating third eyelid.

A surprise encounter with a Red Fox on my walk this evening!
