What is going on here Barnard College Columbia University?

How does a student with no disciplinary record suddenly get to a suspension less than 24 hours after a nonviolent protest?

What merits asymmetric crackdowns on Palestinian human rights protests?

I found this to be pretty shocking.

I failed to replicate a famous finding from 20 years ago, and the paper's editor reprimanded me for even *raising the possibility* that the original authors might have (unknowingly) reported a Type I error.

This right here is how it works: It's not in the results and the method (which they know you don't read), but in the editorializing conclusions. On the basis of modest evidence, let's conclude the basis is insufficient, but on the basis of NO evidence, restrict social transition

She could have said the evidence supports use of hormones but is only moderate quality. Instead she plays down the results of the studies as well as the quality, writing as if the results are contradictory.

This is the basis for denying people treatment?

Really?

Hmm.

It's crucial to point out that this review did NOT actually throw out any study that wasn't classed as 'high quality'. It sorted what was there into three ranks of quality.

That's not the mechanism by which Cass discounts a lot of evidence.

The more I look at the Cass Final report, the odder (and worse) it gets.

Take the University of York review commissioned by Cass into cross-sex hormones.

This is the review that sorts evidence into high, moderate and low quality.

Some of the most memorable feedback I have received was right around my tenure denial:
'Michael, the appeal isn't going to work, you need to be prepared to leave.' saved me 6 months of consciousness raising
'Productivity is your best revenge.' a Susan Fiske classic.

This does nothing to make Jews safe. It is a stunt. And it’s one that has implications for students, activists, and Palestinians in America.

These actions divide communities as well, ultimately leading to *more* danger for Jews.

We have to prioritize solidarity.

This goes for Jews as well, there is a sort of narrow focus on our intracommunal debates. That has more to do with a misconception built on growing up in these communities, though, so there's actually an excuse for it.

Also, let's not leave it merely implied: if these Christian Zionists were not a factor, the U.S. would not be giving Netanyahu and the IDF carte blanche to perform the horrific acts that they are performing, because it is these who the Democrats and Republicans court votes from.

If someone stole a few dollars worth of food at the self checkout, Walmart would press all the charges & prosecutors would file them. But Walmart stealing MILLIONS at the same checkout? They just pay a fee. WHERE IS THE CARCERAL PUNISHMENT FOR WALMART EXECS!?

As a former gr*d student, I used to tell prospective applicants that at least London, ON was affordable. Now they have Toronto-level rent, and Western University won't negotiate proper cost-of-living increases for grad students. I support TA/PD Union@ Western in their strike action
