Day 10

_Till We Have Faces_ was C. S. Lewis’ take on the Cupid and Psyche myth. It was his final novel & some consider his best. An interesting adaptation. About as far away from Apuleius as you can get. Probably worth a read or re-read.

- Psyche in Ancient Greek not only means soul but also butterfly. My watercolour represents Psyche (as butterflies) and the heart shape represents Cupid her lover. The butterflies also represent the story ‘Metamorphosis’ by Platonicus

October 10 (ψυχή): So my ACTUAL contribution today is Psyche walking in the lush and flowery dale where Cupid's palace is placed. It is said that the palace had golden pillars, so I imagined they were also golden on the outside.

- The 'Eros and Psyche' Mosaic, from the Villa of Poseidon at Zeugma: ca. Early 3rd Century AD. Although the central emblema is lovely, for me the border is the star of the show here!

💪 For both day 10 of and one of the most poignant bits of advice from ancient minds.

“The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.” —Socrates

Slow down. Breathe.

“Psychen autem, paventem ac trepidam et in ipso scopuli vertice deflentem, mitis aura molliter spirantis Zephyri vibratis hinc inde laciniis...

Today’s prompt is PSYCHE. As ever, charlieandrew Maximum Classics has some suggestions: maximumclassics.com/classics-tober…

To prep my contribution, I read the Apuleius’ Metamorphoses version of Psyche and Eros/Cupid on the bus…

day 10: Psyche. The idol of Aphrodite at Aphrodisias ponders why her shrines are empty. Meanwhile, the simple folk of Caria sneak off to worship psyche.

Day 10: 'Psyche'. Passing over the obvious, Canova's Cupid and Psyche, here is Jean-Honoré Fragonard's Psyche Showing Her Sisters Her Gifts from Cupid.

Day 10 of : Ψυχή (Psyche) is the Greek word for soul, and also for butterfly. Joaquín Ariosto y Jesús Pérez Rivera are Mexican artists who created this gorgeous piece of arte en popotillo—each line is a piece of a reed placed carefully in a mosaic on beeswax.
