Dodo, Phoenix or Butterfly?

The third option, the Phoenix (the mythical bird which dies in flames but life rises from the ashes) that we do face societal collapse and mass suffering but out of the ashes a new civilisation may rise.

Another possible future is the Dodo. global temperatures rise and we reach irreversible tipping points world incompatible with human civilisation and heading to extinction. This scenario is already on the cards as tipping points are already being activated.

One possible, although extremely unlikely future, is the butterfly. A rapid transformation away from fossil fuel capitalism, exploitation and consumerism into a flourishing world. Societal collapse avoided by rapid and deep changes.

Today I sat with a friend called to ordained ministry. As we chatted I explained (with thanks to the thinking of Rupert Read 🌍 ) that her future ministry will take place in the context of the butterfly, dodo or phoenix. Let me explain.
