this ad showing the destruction of beautiful creative tools (& therefore a way of life) like metronomes & musical instruments reminds me of the quote “we become what we behold. We shape our tools & then our tools shape us”

Very Exciting News! It seems there is a rediscovered Caravaggio that will be on display at the Prado this summer! It will be interesting to compare the Ecce Homo to the version in Genoa.

Children should be not only permitted but invited in church, even if making noise.

They should be enjoyed at weddings as the fruit of such unions.

Our prohibitions against them means we’ve forgotten what we’re here for.

Today I learned about this elaborate eulogy carved into stone of a 1st c Roman husband for his wife (identity uncertain, traditionally referred to as 'Turia')
It's the longest personal document of this kind. He loved her a lot, they were married for 40 years.

bummer that I can’t go to this by the Detroit Symphony this week.

Mahler once said “a symphony must be like the world. It must contain everything.”

when folks can’t take issue head-on directly with your argument that they don’t like (because it’s airtight and correct) they instead take jabs at your appearance. we sadly expect this.

but when it comes from other women…smh

let’s spend the next year unpacking the question posed in this piece:

“How do you make ECMO available to everybody so that you can die anywhere, anytime, and someone will be able to save you?”

I published an essay last week arguing for something very similar to this! We need to create university campuses that are conducive to good disagreement rather than acrimonious protesting and uncompromising belligerency.

have been trying to incorporate the academic seals of the Universities I’m visiting, in my remarks.

the academic seal of Hopkins reads “Veritas vos liberabit” —translated “the truth will set you free”
