They said it couldn’t be done, but I attended two concerts last night! First a wonderful cello duo concert with Magda Sas and Zachary Preucil followed by a Schwendinger premier and the Koestler Saxophone concert. Bravo to all!

Quick question for all the composers/musicians out there: Do you all still use Soundcloud as a platform for your music? It was big during my undergrad -- but I'm not sure if I should stick primarily to YouTube or some other service.

Recently, I’ve been reading Jeremy Eichler’s Time’s Echo. A very intriguing and interesting book about the effect of the second world war and the holocaust’s effect on Jewish composers. I’m looking forward to learning more

Here’s a non-traditional music puzzle to start your day. This is the opening melody of a well-known orchestral piece. Any ideas where it’s from? (Make sure to click the image to see the full puzzle!)

Finished “Time’s Echo” by Jeremy Eichler. It’s about Schoenberg, R. Strauss, Britten and Shostakovich during the Second World War. A book of depth and insight on Culture and History.

Spending the morning being inspired by Augusta Holmès’ Andromède. Why haven’t I found this sooner? Any good recommendations for pieces I should listen to next? music youtube.com/watch?v=leOwU_…

Today’s musical dilemma: Can serial techniques be blended with other compositional methods, like tonality or free atonality, to create hybrid works? How would that affect the composition's structure and expressive potential?

It's time for another brain teaser to round-off your week!
Can you identify this week's mystery score?
💡Clue: The piece is a set of 24 variations

2. Melinda Wagner
3. John Harbison
4. Toru Takemitsu
