I don't understand why we don't adopt universal precautions😷 for respiratory infections in clinics & hospitals.

HIV got healthcare workers to adopt universal precautions🧤 for blood🩸 & other bodily fluid exposures.

COVID should have done the same for masks😷 & respirators.

Now that many of us have gotten used to testing at home for COVID, I’m curious if pharma companies will realize that there is probably also a market for at-home tests for other infections like flu or rsv.

Sure, not everyone cares to test but many do

How are Japan and the US doing on COVID vaccination?

🔸US had a head start, but Japan overtook on all fronts
🔸Similar population share vaccinated with ≥ 1 dose
🔸Japan did far better job completing the primary cycle
🔸US booster coverage is less than 1/2 that in Japan

1/2

Surges in non-sars respiratory pathogens (flu, rsv, probably pneumococcus later on) are expected after the remarkable reductions in circulation that happened while pandemic measures were in place.
