On April 18, students at Columbia University and Barnard College established the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, an occupation of shared campus space to call for divestment and Palestinian liberation. Here's a running list of solidarity actions on other U.S. campuses since Apr 18.🧵

When you punish students for their love & compassion you teach them how powerful compassion truly is. You admit to them that you govern on a premise that cannot withstand love. Love prevails. We’re witnessing the soul growth of a generation. They deserve our care & respect.💜

and Barnard College is the one evicting students & giving them 15 min to retrieve belongings from their own dorms. Dean Grinage and Laura Rosenbury are downright villainous for leaving young women with no housing the same night many of them got out of jail.

For THE CITY, NYPD confirms 108 arrests thus far, Columbia says anyone who participated is suspended, though they haven't confirmed #'s. By 2pm police had cleared the lawn of protesters, though hundreds more have since set up in another portion of lawn.

Columbia University It’s 9:15pm, it is raining again, and the air feels heavy with the weight of so many people at Columbia University diligently waiting.

Some fidget, some gaze at nothing while standing stone still.

Columbia University has given the Gaza Solidarity Encampment/Liberated Zone until 9pm to clear the lawn. Negotiations ongoing.

Per multiple sources off-acampus, there are a significant number of NYPD outside that seem ready to move in.

Students are going over Know Your Rights.

I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that it now exists in the world, BUT I will be eating a mountain of cake this week and counting down the days til my Thank-You-Detroit party in mid-May.
