: Have any of your devices been accessed by Centrelink? We know welfare recipients in relationships are especially targeted, w/ Centrelink accessing private phone msgs — a disgusting practice we need to further expose

This really should be major news given the last few weeks. 'It will stop homicides'. That's the Sex Discrimination Commissioner on the ABC re raising JobSeeker to support women leaving violent partners.

this feels pretty slept on: the Sex Discrimination Commissioner explicitly said that more women will get killed if the government doesn't lift income support

While we're on the issue, can we also talk about how the complete breakdown of Centrelink's service impacts women?

Centrelink is blocking calls from people in distress en masse. And the government is showing no urgency to fix this quickly

We know that the most dangerous time for a person in a violent relationship is when they're trying to leave it.

We also know that more than half the applications for the payment are rejected because victim-survivors can't meet the strict eligibility requirements

“Want to solve our mental health crisis? You can start by ensuring the people with disability who live in poverty, many with psychosocial disabilities who rely on jobseeker to live, have enough money to pay for their medications & food,” Elly Desmarchelier

The requirement to have left the household where violence is occurring is truly bonkers given current housing crisis. Victim survivors often need the payment IN ORDER to leave or make plans to get out. We fail so many women with these bureaucratic hoops
