You “defeat” Hamas by empowering alternative & *real* road to Palestinian self determination predicated on non-violence & diplomacy. Half those who fail to recognise this are bad faith ideologues. Other half are credulous fools. Mix of both are making very consequential decisions

Writing in the Jewish News about our new pamphlet, LFI director Michael Rubin sets out how a Labour government can advance peace.

Supporting civil society must be 'part of restoring a diplomatic horizon for Israelis and Palestinians' 👇

Shouldn’t be hard to be like Carl Cashman. But: it increasingly is.
FWIW I know many Palestinians who echo what he said. And I know many Israelis (some on streets tonight…) who do too. Stand with them. Not with partisans who see either 🇮🇱 or 🇵🇸 lives as anything less than equal

.Michael Rubin:
“Under Keir Starmer who has endorsed an Int Fund, a Labour govt could make civil society its priority, & position the UK as the leading voice, convener & architect for civil society in the region, placing this agenda at the core of a wider diplomatic process”

A source with knowledge of the negotiations said the U.S. invited the Israelis to Cairo over the weekend but they chose not to send a team. One Israeli official admitted it was a mistake that led Israel to have less visibility into the talks

Powerful book/article. For explanatory power, unpacking kafkaesque reality of systems in question. But also *humanising* power. Telling that story through eyes of a family & their tragedy. More humanising stories of Palestinians & Israelis please & fewer dehumanising abstractions

This is a decision not to decide. Yet. Only real change here from situation three hours ago is a positive one. Israel is now sending negotiators back to Cairo after having refused to do so since Saturday

Seems right. The unknowable dynamics that’ll play out over those days however are roiling protests/pressure from hostages families (on streets right now), moves from far right cabinet members, and continued operations in/around Rafah. Each can impact events and any final decision

People in Rafah, messaged me saying men women and children are in the streets celebrating and dancing at the news that Hamas has accepted a ceasefire deal. No details have been released of which exact deal. Silence from Israel so far. Everyone is holding their breath.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry: We call on Israel to maintain maximum restraint and avoid further escalation at this sensitive point in the negotiations on the ceasefire agreement. Egypt is holding talks with all parties to find a solution that will prevent an explosion

Gallant: “This is a good deal. We must, on a moral & ethical level, return the abducted. Especially you and I, the PM and the MoD on Oct 7th. I'm not talking outside the box so as not to raise the price, but this deal needs to be approved. This is our chance to bring them home.”
