At this point, there are only two good options for passing gambling legislation: 1. Don't pass etf and force a special where you can put together a decent bill, or 2. Go back to conference and put in whatever you need to pass it, ignoring the 'rules,' like with the AAA.

Those reps are mad because they took a public stance on a controversial issue they believed in, and withstood a bunch of threats & probably will face challenges down the road. And it seems like it was all for nothing because a small number of senators bailed for personal gain.

People have poked fun at House members' anger over gaming. I get it. Seems like sour grapes. But they went in with assurances from senate leadership that everyone was on the same page & they'd weather the storm together and pass it. Then the senate bailed. And lied about it.

It shouldn't be lost in the shuffle that an overwhelming majority of voters want an opportunity to vote on gambling, and they're being prevented from doing so by a MINORITY of senators. In a simple majority vote, gambling passes easily.

The unwillingness of a whole bunch of lawmakers to let gambling die is a direct reflection of the popularity of the gambling legislation with voters and the anger lawmakers have heard over the past couple of days. Not to mention the bad blood within the legislature over it.

I believe the finger pointing over why the gambling legislation didn't pass can now begin. (It would take an absolute miracle to save it at this point.) I would start with Greg Reed, Alfa and personal ambition trumping constituent wishes. With the last 1 being the biggest issue.

Or... You can just get a Bovada or 5Dimes account. Or you can play daily fantasy on DraftKings or FanDuel, which is essentially player prop betting. All 'from your living room.'

Oh no! Not legalized sports wagering that is properly taxed and regulated in Alabama! We'll all go to hell!

Wait, what?

Just wanted to remind everyone to get their Kentucky Derby mobile bets in on Twin Spires, which is perfectly legal in this state where the Alabama Senate is preventing you from voting to 'legalize' gambling. We're just this dumbest.

All of these threats and carrots over gambling are really unnecessary. Let me solve this with one sentence: 'The ag center bill doesn't get signed until gambling passes.'

I see people making fun of Ivey putting the screws to senators over the gambling bill, as if they shouldn't be scared of her. You should. Might not be a more effective politician in Ala at retribution. She doesn't threaten. She quietly tells you what she's going to do to you.

The fact is those senators mostly voted against the legislation because of personal ambition/promises to donors. That's fine. It's (unfortunately) how politics works. It's why we ended up with a bill that was way worse than the original house version.

If any Alabama senator tries to tell you today that they were a no vote on gambling last night but supported a 'clean' or 'paper' lottery, they're BSing you. There's no such thing in this state now because of our laws. They know that. They hope you don't.

If your senator voted against the gaming bill tonight, and your district is in need of any particular services - up to and including a billion dollar prison - they've got 36 hrs to make a deal.

Nothing quite like a gambling vote in the Alabama legislature. An hour ago they had 22 'firm' votes for this. Then a senator went missing and a senator who literally spent 20 mins praising the legislation and trying to get others to vote for it, voted against it.

So the senate concurred on the gambling bill that came out of conference (only needed 18). But the CA contained in that bill needed 21 votes. It got only 20 after Sen. Albritton, after praising the bill, voted against it. It was carried over and will likely be back.

Alabama Senate has 22 votes for gaming. They're gonna vote. Not sure how much grandstanding or jabbering will go down, but sometime tonight we should have a gambling bill and a special election in August to let people finally vote on gambling.
