I'm very fond of Irish-American writer Maeve Brennan. She was glamorous in her youth, worked for the New Yorker and Harper's, wrote short stories, a novella and vignettes, but her later life was difficult. I wrote a post about her and her work here: indiecateditorial.com/index.php/2023…

Anne Rice's novel Interview with the Vampire was famously completed in about 5 weeks. But the draft accepted by her agent & publisher was quite different from the final version. Why did she change it, especially since her publishing deal was based on the original version?

In Bram Stoker's Dracula, Count Dracula transforms from human to vampire, symbolizing a dark rebirth. His ability to shift between forms—bat, wolf, mist—represents his immortality but comes at the cost of losing his humanity and succumbing to eternal darkness. #BookologyThursday

Let #Friday13th hold no fear of black cats. In #Wales they bring good luck to the home as they “chase all ills away”, while in #Scotland, if an unknown #blackcat shows up at your door it is a sign that wealth is coming your way! #FolkyFriday #Caturday Image: Helen Timbury

Communism: One of the worst political ideologies in history. A tiny group of ‘elites’ consolidating near-total control over resources, eroding democracy and stifling freedoms to enable them to hoover up all assets. We forget the lessons of history at our peril.

A comparison of the BBC 1995 and the later 2005 film adaptations of Pride and Prejudice. The TV series definitely has the advantage of much more screen time. When Good Adaptations Get it Wrong: Pride and Prejudice 2005 vs. 1995. youtu.be/tzit2ND6AC8?si… via YouTube

RABBIT UNDERTAKERS The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi (1883) is weirder & darker than you think. When Pinocchio refuses to take his medicine the Blue Fairy summons a group of black rabbits as undertakers to carry him off! 🎨Charles Copeland

I'm so nosey about long gone buildings and shops and homes that I always blow up the image to get a close look at everything there. Including what's in a shop window. Or the posters on the walls. Or the people. Or the curtains in a window like the one here upstairs. Extra points
