Normalize starting math class with a math activity on the first day of school.

Not sure if all of the kids you have on the first day are the ones you'll have for the semester? That's fine. Use an activity that lives outside of your curriculum.

During virtual class...

STUDENT: Mr. F, can I ask you a question?

ME: Of course- what’s up?

S: Are you okay?

M: Yes, for the most part. I appreciate the concern, why do you ask?

S: Because you have like 20 tabs open and it gave ME anxiety.

Tried out this #connectingreps with 2nd and 3rd graders with success! Both with the virtual classes, in person classes and hybrid classes. Anything is possible. Thanks David Wees for the feedback to help creat this one!

Today I gave my fifth graders their first exposure to graphing by letting them collect data - how many times can you floss in 1 minute (count number of floss moves in 10 second intervals) - and tell the story that goes with their graph #MTBoS #iteachmath
