Today I had the honor of leading a poetry workshop at @ajclions They have so many talented writers with powerful stories that are built on their experiences as individuals and are filled with universal truth.

It was awesome, and much needed. 🦁

MAN.... everyone snaps on there, BUT @TAGE! That verse and a few others of his, had him as one of my favorite MCs of that time. And, the record he did with nottz recently is also excellent: open.spotify.com/album/7gI0pbWZ…

Side note to this: Sugar Daddy on 'One More Time' from 1981 has a whole verse where he refers to himself in third person. It's one of the earliest examples I've found of it (that goes beyond a line or two)...

👑 BAHAMADIA's 1996 debut album Kollage is rightly regarded as one of the greatest rap albums of the 1990s. For the first time ever, Be With & Turntable Lab present the definitive 2LP of this eternal hip-hop classic, including the legendary 'Path To Rhythm' buff.ly/4dgQUsv

if you are an artist and you are on here not celebrating other artists accomplishments, you are missing the point of being on here at all

'Thun & Kicko' is one of those songs that everytime I hear it, I play it back at least 2 more times...can't help it. And Prodigys verse on 'Apostle's Warning', was a key reason why I reached out to interview him in '96.

This has been a myth the whole time, based on select few MCs who (somewhat) fit that description. Historically the greatest battle rappers of any era were generally good/great at making songs. And, I'm fairly certain the critique was more directed to MCs who relied on Improv

Kevin Beacham Btw, where one can get those digitalized Rubberoom interviews??? Really wanna know the mindset of the crew, when they were creating architechnology

I'm actually working on something to start sharing stuff like that from my collection. It's just taking a while as I'm buried in other projects, slow cooking it, but planning to launch it off end of year or early next...

I have note to look up some tips on best ways to do live streaming for DJs set, that I've been putting off doing for months, but looks like i can just start here...

Yes, that's the homie! Bigg Jus co-hosted the show with me. I knew him back before Funcrusher dropped so we stayed in touch over the years. He also did a short 10-15 minute set that night... I've been meaning to catch back up with him, been a minute.

Abou 10 years ago I helped them digitize their archives. all the flyers, demos, lyric books, freestyle tapes, DATS, videos, etc.. that they had from their early career. Endless gems, including a bunch of unreleased music that's every bit as good as the songs we know and love...

Absolutely! I'm glad I was mindful to capture stuff like this. I have a lot of great history on those tapes! Every show ended with a massive freestyle with the performers and guest MCs, where I would pass the mic to who I wanted to rock next. Those were some wild sessions!!

This is just one of about 6 or so shows Bird and I did at the Metro highlighting the artists that I was playing on my Time Travel Radio Show on WNUR 89.3FM . The shows brought several indie artists to Chicago for their first shows, and usually their biggest show (of the time) too.

Yeah, that was the one with Typical Cats right? I need to find all these flyers for these shows... But I'm pretty sure any show with Atmosphere at the Metro at that time was via Bird and I.

That was sort of the magic about those series of shows Bird and I did there. The Metro didn't really do indie or local rap shows then. But we were doing these shows and packing them, and in some cases selling it out. It was definitely not the norm.

I'm trying to find the flyer now. All those shows blend in at this point. We had some great line ups for that time period on those events!
