This is an illustration I did for a collection by Caitlin R. Kiernan called Houses Under the Sea published by Centipede. This series of illustrations were done with carbon pencil. I had fun abstracting some of the elements.

For this week’s posts I think I’ll focus on illustrations I’ve done. This one was created for a music project that never came to pass-it does happen-but I still like the piece. It reflects my love of nature and protean forms.

The light isn’t awful this morning so I thought I’d show you a couple details of my current work in progress.

I enjoy creating a kind of maximalist visual turbulence with ink. This one is called “Vanishing Act.” It explores a dream-like churn that typifies much of my art production.

What I like about this piece is that it feels like it has a past and a future, like a frame cut from an animated film. It’s called The Time Traveller. I hope you all had a great weekend.

“Where do you start the drawing?” is a question I often get. Well I started this one with the eye. Side eye? Now you know.

This is a stippled piece from 2015 called “Sinistral Sister.”

I am working on this new piece right now. This is a graphite line drawing, but the final piece will be rendered in ink. Pen is for scale. I think I will add an ancient city in the background, but I have a long way to go before I have to commit.
