#OTD 1944 there has been extensive aerial minelaying off the South Coast overnight, with approaches to Portland & Portsmouth closed to traffic. 20 mines are subsequently detonated in the Needles Channel (some of them spontaneously). Mines are also swept off Newhaven & the Nab.
