Nothing more annoying than not getting your spacing quite right!
This volume on the history of the kingdom of Naples printed in 1563, was shelved flat at some stage, hence the title on the tail-edge. It has been (upright) on our shelves since 1707

I had a magnificent tour of Marsh's Library with my TCD History Atlantic Island students today. They were much taken with the maps in the Go West exhibition and even more so by a 1670s map of Jamaica bound into a copy of the Acts of the Jamaican Assembly.

The bezoar stone found inside the stomach of the bezoar goat was once thought to be a cure for most poisons & cost many times its weight in gold. And they still use it in the wizarding world, as Harry Potter fans will know! From Pierre Pomet's 'Complete history of drugs', 1725.

Feast your eyes on this watermark beauty from a letter written on June 16, 1674 to our first librarian, Élie Bouhéreau (1643-1719)
