I immediately purchased a ticket to a screening of the 1979 drama NATURAL ENEMIES at American Cinematheque in June. This grim rarity makes Marsha Norman's 'NIGHT MOTHER and Fassbinder's WHY DOES HERR R. RUN AMOK look cheery by comparison. Essential viewing. americancinematheque.com/now-showing/na…
Movie #4 was the 1987 coming of age adventure WHITE WATER SUMMER. Featuring breathtaking nature cinematography, some thrilling action sequences and a few memorable performances, it gets my vote for the night's best film. Thanks for an epic marathon, New Beverly Cinema!
Movie #3 was the spirited 1984 sex comedy HARDBODIES. It's a surprisingly well made T&A pic with legit laughs, likable leads and a ton of energy. The crowd ate it up. Another gorgeous print too. New Beverly Cinema's marathon is in full swing!
Movie #2 was PULSE, a fun 1988 sci-fi horror film in the vein of GHOST IN THE MACHINE. Stylishly directed and loaded with cool effects, it was a solid choice for the New Beverly Cinema's secret marathon. The 35mm print was flawless.
Movie #1 was the excellent 1986 thriller OUT OF BOUNDS. Stewart Copeland's score is terrific, Jeff Kober is relentless as the villain, and the film makes awesome use of LA locations. The 35mm print was great. New Beverly Cinema's secret marathon is off to a fine start!
In line for tonight's secret marathon at New Beverly Cinema. They're showing four Columbia Pictures movies from the 1980s, in 35mm, and we won't know the titles until they hit the screen.
Been revisiting the 2007 #BionicWoman reboot, and I wish this cool sci-fi action series had lasted more than eight episodes. The writers strike halted production mid-season and it never resumed afterwards. That's a shame because there's a lot here to like.
Saddened to hear that brilliant artist Daniel Goozee has died. His iconic James Bond posters during the Roger Moore era are a big reason why I love the Bond series as much as I do. Goozee is up there with Bob Peak and Drew Struzan in the pantheon of all-time greats.
Here's @WesternPodcast co-hosts Matthew Chernov and Andrew Patrick Nelson enjoying dinner tonight at The Prince. It's a historic bar and restaurant in LA's Koreatown, where scenes in the classic film CHINATOWN were shot.
Now that #GodzillaXKong is in theaters, here's my updated Godzilla movie ranking for Variety. Personally, I wish the big G had a lot more to do in this Kong-centric entry. His agent should've demanded a rewrite to beef up his role! variety.com/lists/godzilla…
