Just saw this, and it made my day. Jamie Lee Curtis is indeed a legend! Also, this whole thread is delightful. (Achilles is in there too! Thank you @waterstones!)

Last but definitely not least: HARLEM SHUFFLE by colson whitehead. I love all of Whitehead’s books, and seeing him take on a heist story is a true and deep delight. Definitely going to be a gifting favorite from me this year! /16

A WISH IN THE DARK by Christina Soontornvat. A brilliant YA adaptation of Les Miserables that won the 2021 Newbery Award. I had bought it as a gift for someone, read the first chapter, and realized I needed a second copy ASAP for myself. /15

DETRANSITION, BABY by Torrey Peters. I loved this very smart book from start to finish, with its beautifully drawn, complicated, and winning characters. Another one I’ve been recommending left and right! /14

GREEK MYTHS: A NEW RETELLING by Charlotte Higgins. Higgins is a wonderful scholar, and a great story teller. I’ve been loving these retellings, cleverly centered around the theme of myths told in tapestry. /12

THE FALL OF BABEL by JOSIAH BANCROFT. I met Josiah at a Philadelphia book event pre-Covid, and was bowled over by his sharply written, funny, and hugely imaginative reading. I've adored his whole Books of Babel series, and this is the final installment. Can’t wait to dive in! 10/
