The story of subjects

When I talk with colleagues about what they hope for their subjects in terms of the impact on pupil’s learning, there’s sometimes a pause. Then a file gets opened, usually on a laptop and some complicated blurb gets pulled up.

Such an inspiring talk by Mia I’m not an art leader but I adore the subject and teaching it! So important to foster that creativity and love for art in our curriculum!

My latest RfP article for National Education Union Educate magazine is about why authentic representation in children's books matters so much. It draws heavily on the pioneering work of Rudine Sims Bishop, who explains it far better than I ever could. Hopefully, it's a useful read.

will be special!

My session will focus on the beauty of crafting a rich and purposeful curriculum.

There will be a specific focus on;
•the value of art, craft and design
• our implementation and impact of art, craft and design in EYFS and beyond

Concepts as connections over time:

The reason that the concepts and big ideas in the subjects are helpful is that they are like ‘holding baskets’ for a lot of information.

They are like the boulders across the curriculum that gather more moss over time.
