Would I consider paying a different owner a few bucks for no ads, spellcheck, an edit button (with safeguards) and a few other bells and whistles? Sure. But this paid version is literally going to destroy this social network. Why the hell would I pay for the privilege?

Twitter’s main appeal has always been its pithy, text-based approach and rapid pace. Those things are baked into the very core of the app and there are very few additional features that casual users can/will pay for.

Here’s what will happen: Spam accounts will sign up and then aggressively reply to genuinely popular accounts to increase their clout. Genuine engagement will be buried. Spammers already do this but now they instantly move to prime positions.
