One of my academic besties and I always say, we are not first responders. The work we do is not life or death. The work can wait. It keeps things in perspective in what can be a boundless profession if you let it.

You’re enough. You’re doing enough. Get some rest, y’all!

Why is education so afraid of both/and?

You can use whiteboards during math and still assess in other ways

You can use novels and use shorter complex passages

You can use decodables in lower grades and authentic texts

I still do this.

Stop letting politicians be teacher for a day or principal for a day. They leave thinking our jobs are much easier than they are.

Have them sign up to sub.

The chronic absenteeism discussion in policy circles has jumped the shark.

Kids aren’t absent from school because we lack the right carrots and sticks.

Kids are absent from school because we haven’t done enough as a society to meet their basic needs.

Y’all (admin!) you REALLY can support and love on teachers AND move instruction and student outcomes. They aren’t mutually exclusive.
