Last week we recognized our Education Bureau volunteers; this week we're thanking our Natural History volunteers Mike and CJ for their work identifying and cataloging specimens and interacting with visitors to the Paleo lab! #NationalVoluteerWeek
It's #EarthDay2024 ! Here's a few photos from our Earth Day event yesterday. Guests enjoyed a bird walk with a member of the staff of Tulpehaking Nature Center, made nature-inspired crafts including a seed bomb, and more.
This extra-large shell is the fossil of an extinct oyster from Virginia! Because of their thick, sturdy shells, oysters are common in the fossil record, and certain species are particularly abundant in the Late Cretaceous fossil sites of Monmouth County. #FossilFriday
The Museum has a dedicated group of volunteers that work with our Education Bureau to help run events, provide tours, staff activities and more. We appreciate their work on behalf of the Museum!

This shell cast belonged to an extinct marine snail in the genus Pyropsis. It lived in New Jersey approx. 95 million yrs ago. Discovered in Gloucester Co., its relatives are found all over the world, including South Africa, Brazil, Australia, even Antarctica! #FossilFriday
