As the threat for rip currents increases across most of the East Coast due to #Ernesto, NHC Meteorologist Cassie Mora explains what a rip current means and some safety tips in case you get caught in a rip current. Weather.gov/beaches #NOAA #ripcurrents NOAA's Ocean Service
Our team of researchers and aviators from @flynoaa @noaaomao and AOML’s HRD broke records with the launch of the Black Swift S0 drones into Hurricane Ernesto! 🌀 The Black Swift Tech. drones set a new maximum communications range between a NOAA P-3 and sUAS of 143 nautical miles!
This animation shows a the @flynoaa flight missions into Ernesto. Throughout these flights, HRD/AOML/NOAA researchers used dropsondes, Black Swift Tech. drones, Saildrone, and gliders to gain a better understanding of storm processes and improve hurricane forecasting 🌀
Just in! NOAA’s Adopt a Drifter Program created a web game - Ocean Odyssey: Tracking Marine Debris! The game uses drifter data to help middle school audiences understand how ocean currents transport marine debris. NOAA SciJinks Check it out: bit.ly/3XyiDy3
