Interesting article on predatory journals inflating their citation counts by sneaking references that don't exist in the articles into the metadata that they send to Crossref: arxiv.org/abs/2310.02192

Nicola Spaldin Thank you for the visit Nicola, it was a great experience to have you and Luca visit our group and to discuss about your work for liquid xenon detectors! And here is a much nicer picture :-)

A visit to the Xenoscope, which is testing the electric-field acceleration of electrons ionised from liquid Xe in the search for Dark Matter and neutrinos. Thanks to Laura Baudis for the tour and the excellent discussions!

Aargh, my Swiss National Science Foundation proposal is rejected again. At least I am consistent with my 100% failure rate at winning SNF individual grant funding :(

The Non-Linear Hall and Kinetic Magnetoelectric Effects are universal to all polar metals, which they can be used to characterize. Fabian and Sayantika's preprint just posted: arxiv.org/abs/2309.09794

What came first, the charge quadrupoles or the Jahn-Teller distortion? Study the cakes celebrating Max & Luca’s paper to find out: journals.aps.org/prresearch/abs…

Want to see if a higher-order multipole is the primary order parameter for your favorite phase transition? Use Max's just-published constrained multipoles code to calculate whether it lowers the energy of your system: journals.aps.org/prresearch/abs…

I tried keeping a 'No List' as suggested in this article and just hit 100 'No's for the year. That is quite a lot of time spent writing politely declining emails... nature.com/articles/d4158…

We've collected all the DFT calculations, done some new ones, and reanalysed the old neutron polarimetry data. So we're now pretty sure which AFM domain corresponds to which sign of alpha in Cr2O3. To save you a lot of trouble we wrote it all down here: arxiv.org/pdf/2309.02095…
