Spring has sprung…

Sometimes when you have a huge aurora night you look at the images decide you are going to use one for social media but then when you look a bit later you then decide aha maybe this looks a bit better...

Either way the 3rd of March was one of the best nights of the season...

My first insect macro of the year :)

Was just throwing some things in the car and noticed my 1st bee fly of the year for me in the front garden

Of course had to run and grab the camera! Not sure I've seen this brown and white species (?) before or the spilt in the proboscis...

Spoonbill at dawn...

Another shot from yesterdays early morning session with the spoonbills, not sure when there's going to be another opportunity with the current forecast

Got quite a few from the session and might as well post them now or I'll have moved on...

After finishing with the spoonbills at dawn this morning had a walk around some of the other Ings listening to bitterns booming and spotting the odd roe deer

Got back into the early morning vibe and was rewarded with two spoonbills feeding just as the sun came up

Here's one landing in the water just as the light was at it's best

So how do spoonbills get their name?

Amazing that these birds have been breeding at one of my local sites since they arrived in 2017 (never bred in Yorkshire before then)

It's hard to stop smiling/laughing when photographing them today with that goofy bill

Had a few days back at home now just relaxing after a crazy busy season 6 month season in Abisko - and ventured out with the camera again this morning - local little owl still hanging around and standing on one leg :)

Goodbye the frozen North! It’s been a blast. But 6 months 200km north of the Arctic circle it’s defo time to go home :-)
