Today, Gov. Abbott is in Eagle Pass w/ other far-right governors promoting Op. Lone Star

I was there last week for Human Rights Watch & saw asylum-seekers — incl. at least 4 babies — trapped on the TX side of the river under razor wire. National Guard and DPS agents refused them water. 🧵1/10

Read this thread! This is an extremely disturbing trend, especially with the impending implementation of CARE Court and the likely passage of SB43. Involuntary 'treatment' is re-emerging (not that it ever left) as a major form of social control and criminalization.

After waiting 102 years for justice, three survivors of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre just received the news that their reparations case was dismissed.

The massacre, led by an angry white mob, left hundreds of Black people dead and destroyed more than 1200 homes.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the last deportation from Chagos.

From 1967 to 1973, the United Kingdom and United States forcibly removed all Chagossians from their islands.

Chagossians have not been allowed to return home since.

In the span of about 24 hours between May 31 and June 1, 1921, a white mob descended on Greenwood, a successful black economic hub in Tulsa, Oklahoma, then-known as “Black Wall Street,” and burned it to the ground.

No one has ever been held responsible.

People come to the U.S. for more for more opportunity, certainly.

But they also leave their homes because they have no choice.

Destabilizing U.S. policies don't help. It's past time to end Trump-era policies that help force people leave home.

Monday at 7pm, I’ll join Rio Grande Valley-based community organization La Unión del Pueblo Entero and Austin groups at this vigil at the TX Capitol.

The vigil will honor the lives of the people who were killed in Brownsville today and call for end to policies that dehumanize migrants.

Jordan Neely was the latest victim of an alarming rise in vigilantism, encouraged by policies embracing the idea that people without homes + living with mental health conditions, especially if they are Black, need to disappear.
