Leaked USAID memo: “deterioration of food security and nutrition in Gaza is unprecedented in modern history, exponentially outpacing in six months the long-term declines that led to the only other two famine declarations in the 21st century”

Today marked the first time a judge has ever visited a CIA black site - a shocking fact when you consider that the entire military commissions system was built to both hide and benefit from the CIA torture program.

On my way to Echo 2 this afternoon:

As a current adjunct prof teaching human rights and national security at Penn - I am hoping that the admin can set an example and avoid the disastrous choice to create violence against a non-violent student demonstration.

We have warned for more than 20 years that this policy would come home to Americans, and it is gutting to watch it happen now. There is a direct line between the development of the post-9/11 forever war apparatus, and this grotesque anti-democratic brutality.

Love this moving piece by my friend Erin L. Thompson, about our fleeting time in Brussels with the incredible Mansoor Adayfi 441 منصور الضيفي.

The reasons this is such an excellent & important thread is
that it documents succinctly the ways in which over classification & what would appear to be obstruction of public proceedings occurs by 1000 cuts. The burden on defence lawyers in such circumstances is just exceptional.

If you're more mad about the college campus protests against mass graves than against the mass graves themselves you should probably take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror.

In case the transcript is redacted later -- here's my argument this morning about how and why the USG has failed to provide public trial proceedings in the 9/11 case.

Last University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School class of the semester, discussing big-picture accountability for human rights and security issues. So proud of these kids, their ability to think critically, and use their voices. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

NEW: A new independent report found that Israel's actions in Gaza 'raise grave concerns regarding the [Biden] Administration’s compliance with both U.S. and international law' as it continues to arm Israel.

Four years ago, I wrote about the slippery slope of police militarization and smearing protestors as 'terrorists.' I did not foresee - still can't believe - that this now includes non-violent student protestors on college campuses.

John Oliver on Gaza protests: “Protest is meant to be disruptive…34,000 people have been killed, most of them women & children…the US continues to supply Israel funding & arms for all of this, even as Gaza sinks into famine. If that’s not worth protesting, I’m not sure what is”
