1. Great work by Rob Tucker & The BMA highlighting how ludicrous the FY allocation process is for graduating med students. I have friends who were allocated placeholder jobs, some are going to take a year out, others are going to leave the UK after FY1 🧵

With a significant number of FY1s assigned ‘placeholder’ posts this year, many will be given less than the 8-week relocation notice period - for some as little as 3 weeks.
Our BMA Students committee and Philip Banfield 💙 are asking for a review of the process from Government. [1/2]

“Hundreds” of final year medical school students may only get a few weeks’ notice of where they will be placed for their first jobs, BMA Students has warned. NHS England said foundation schools were working quickly to confirm arrangements buff.ly/3xRiTit

Hundreds of UK final year medical students have been told by their foundation schools that they could only get three weeks notice of what hospital and city they will start working in.....🧵

Always a great time talking about The BMA - Lots of reasons for students to join: gaining leadership experience, educational resources, career info that med school doesn't teach & more!
One of the strongest Trade Unions in UK & we've got more to do for Med Students in the future!

Thanks BMJ Student & éabha for asking to contribute below. BMA Students are committed to lobbying for a foundation programme allocation process that minimises undue stress:
The UK Healthcare system is full of it, and a good 1st step would be improving the entry to F1/2!

We have overwhelmingly voted to reject the Government and NHS England’s 2024/25 GP contract changes.
More than 19,000 GPs and GP Registrars took part in the BMA’s referendum, with over 99% voting ‘no’.
Our message can't be any clearer.

Med Students:

I'm running for The BMA UK Council to be one of 3 Med Student members. Deadline to vote is Monday 8th April - it's by post so check your home/uni addresses,

A vote for me is one for experience in education & being best placed to creating change!

Med Students have many allies against the UK Foundation Programme change moving SFP (Specialised Foundation Programme) onto the PIA computer-generated ranking.
