Look through the profiles of those posting negative comments on this and you will see that absolutely none of them work in schools, let alone lead schools in challenging contexts.

Tom Rogers I sent this to my son who is a first year out English teacher in Melbourne and he is loving it. Full of nuggets of behaviour management gold. Thank you.

The competition culture between teachers and schools based on student results is not only sad, it’s also wrong. Driven by govt and OFSTED of course, but embraced by many, despite the evidence of link between teaching and exam outcomes being negligible at best.

In preparation for tomorrow night’s Teachers Talk Radio show, let us know what first drew you to classroom teaching: a sense of mission? A chance to communicate a subject passion? Fortune or misfortune? Drop us a reply and we’ll explore these on air tomorrow.

Tom Rogers I agree. It’s about how the rules are interpreted. ‘Sit up’ for example in our school really means ‘don’t have your head on the desk or swing on your chair’. It doesn’t mean bolt upright at all times. These are perfectly legitimate expectations. I don’t understand the furore.
