Empathy is the essential skill of transformational coaching. We cannot build secure relationships where students feel seen, safe, n secure if we can’t imagine what it’s like to walk in their shoes. Develop. Model. Teach.

If you want to get stronger you are going to have to lift heavy…

Muscular tension is what we are chasing for strength adaptations.

In order to maximize the tension experienced by the fibers, we must strain. Lift heavy, strain often.

'This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again. Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come.'

Strength Coaches: Be you, do what you can teach safely, do what works for you and your athletes, and keep learning. Do not worry about the constant noise, sarcasm, and bashing of old or new ways on twitter. Be you!!

get to know and care about the people you are leading, and small acts of kindness/thoughtfulness have big impacts, and everyone deserves a second chance. You do these things, you have a chance to win or be successful in anything. Not guaranteed, but a chance. Great show!

Skeptical when I started watching, but the message of leadership in coaching and really in life from Ted Lasso is powerful. Be a good person first, we are all flawed and vulnerable and it is ok to let people see that,

Too many people underestimate the commitment level of D3 athletics.

These are recruited athletes, not walk-ons.

A high academic D3 asst. coach told us this:

<2% of student-athletes who've played for their program have come to school without a guaranteed roster spot.

If you can't explain it, then it probably doesn't need to be in your program. Athletes have great radar for BS, use their limited time well!
