Had to come for today’s ceremony and say goodbye to the First Fleet.

INCREDIBLE crowd here to salute the system & ride a legacy car one last time. 🫡🚊

This is like Coachella with transit fans.

My story about the first BART car ⬇️

I must confess I never looked closely at his question, but now I'm pretty disappointed it's not the same hydrant. I realize, of course, that believing it should survive for 120 odd years may have been unrealistic, but when it comes to SF history, I expect the improbable.

A legend in San Francisco historic preservation. Single mother. Tireless advocate. Always a class act. RIP

SOMA seems flat today, but it was once dominated by Rincon Hill. This is an 1855 view north toward Market Street between what is today 2nd and 3rd streets. I love that one of the sand dunes looks as though it's about to swallow a small house in the left foreground.

Three views looking up Powell Street from Market, 1860s, 1880s, 1909.
The Baldwin Hotel burned in 1898 and was replaced by today's Flood Building.

Looking up Powell from Market, ca. 1860s. Today this is the location of the Powell Street cable car turnaround. Nob Hill in the distance at left.

There is no need to overthink this one. My vote is for 'Strawberry Lake.' It relates perfectly to Strawberry Hill, and is a very sweet name to boot.

If you've ever wondered where the beach in North Beach was located, just remember that Bay Street and Beach Street are well named. Today the area that was formerly part of San Francisco Bay includes the entire Fisherman's Wharf area.

Is it me, or do quite a few of the names of the employees from OpenAI who demanded the board resign look suspiciously like a list of names that were, in fact, generated by AI?
