100 years of ice melt at Gornergletscher has resulted in the glacier tongue now over 3 km back from little ice age maxima. Length isn’t everything however; this contrast between an old postcard & today shows the overall loss of Switzerland’s second largest glacier. 😢❄️

Wow!! An amazing find for alpineglacierproject.org washed down by river draining from Findeln glacier. This boot was likely attached to a climber high up who sadly failed to make it home. It has been torn by movement of ice until exposed. Another find from Zermatt, Switzerland

At 79m Wastwater is the deepest in Lake District.

The head of the valley is dominated by Great Gable and Scafell Pike, which, along with Scafell, Kirk Fell and Yewbarrow, surround the small community of Wasdale Head

Potential for catastrophic downstream flooding with the destruction of Nova Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam in Ukraine.

The dam wall was 30 metres high, holding back a reservoir of 18 Million cubic metres of water!!
