Woke up to the disturbing news of the NYPD arresting student protestors at Columbia and City College last night.

Feeling both sad & angry that step after step, escalation by those who are supposed to lead took things in the wrong direction.

PDX, a family who arrived from Afghanistan in January is out of rental assistance & facing eviction. I am trying to raise $5200 to cover back rent & two months of additional rent. They have two little kids. I'm lk321 on venmo. Please share. I know the world is full of need. Ty.

If this were in Russia or Iran -- a police force of this size deployed against students protesting the state's war policies -- it'd be universally denounced as evil tyranny.

The problem for the protesters is they chose the one issue that could provoke police force of this kind:

The death toll in Gaza rises with the UN Security Council's inaction. Last month, the IPU Committee on UN Affairs condemned veto power stalemates. It has only exacerbated Gaza's devastation and unconscionable deaths.

Conflict lives must be prioritized; and veto power limited.

Most of the people posting about Columbia have not stepped foot on campus and have no idea what is going on.

As I said, the demonstrations I saw last week were comprised of students of all faiths, and backgrounds. Columbia escalated this situation by calling in armed police.
