For some probably obvious (and not so obvious) reasons, Station 11 and really Emily St. John Mandel in general was on my mind when I sold How High We Go in the Dark during a pandemic. I’m very excited to interview her at the Unbound Book Festival later this month.

Like so many other small presses, Black Lawrence Press
is devastated by the sudden closure of Small Press Distribution which leaves us and hundreds of other small presses to grapple with logistical nightmares and financial peril.

A good percentage of viral threads in recent years seem to be about people being pissed that their conception of how people should live according to social class is upset by someone finding small joys in living differently/spending their money differently.

BREAKING: SPD's GoFundMe donors may have only 5 days to receive a full refund due to fraud.

Legal steps need to be taken ASAP to determine when SPD leadership knew they were closing & whether this campaign was fraud.

Barely 50 degrees and outdoor eating areas in Minneapolis are declaring it full blown spring. Shorts on the street abound. Word count fuel . . .

Genre is what lives on, it is the body of stories folks read not just once, but forever.
Shakespeare was the derided /genre/ writer of his time, for being too emotional, too fun, too bawdy, too gory.
The stories we remember - from Austen to Asimov & beyond: Genre. Long live it.

honestly can you imagine buying into mystical fascist pseudo-history about the Magical Abilities of People In The Heroic Past when in reality if you pay artists to spend their time doing art, they get better at it much more quickly than if they are trapped in a 9-5

Who is surprised? Also, generational wealth. Mostly don’t care so long as those people write pretty sentences and aren’t jerks and at least half-heartedly acknowledge their privilege once in a while (“It’s a tough year. Can’t renovate the writing villa!”) 😂

THE SAINT OF BRIGHT DOORS is a finalist for the Lammy Awards in the LGBTQ+ Speculative Fiction category. I'm grateful for this unexpected and difficult joy. As a Lammy nominee—so very strange!—I have three painful things to say. I'll try to keep it short. vajra.me/2024/03/27/the…

2700 words on the next novel and cleaned the house. If I ever run out of book ideas I’m gonna cash in the Princess Diana Beanie Baby Bear that I know we all have in a box somewhere.
