Not all heroes wear capes…some wear blankets! This is Shujaa - his name means 'hero' in Swahili - an orphan we recently rescued. A reserved chap, he's growing in confidence day-by-day. Read his story: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/shujaa

Who's this little chap sporting the snappy hairstyle? Well-known for our pioneering work in the rescue of orphan elephants, we open our doors to all-manner of wild orphans. Meet Rodney, the duiker, who just joined our eclectic Kaluku herd.

2nd giraffe patient helped in a day by our SWT/KWS Meru Vet Team. This juvenile male had an open wound to the right hindleg. Thankfully, no bone damage. Dr Aminga cleaned&disinfected the wound, applied green clay & administered antibiotics&painkillers. Good prognosis for recovery

What's that we hear? The pitter-patter of more tiny elephant feet? Baby celebrations continue for our wild-living orphans, this time at our Voi Unit. This magical little calf brings our wild-born baby count to an incredible 52. Meet him, and his mum, here: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/m…

3 years ago, our teams found Roho huddled against the body of his dead mother. Atop a steep sided lava flow, he was carried down to our helicopter & flown to Nairobi. He's grown into a big hearted soul, who loves to wrestle, even with us! ❤️sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/roho

Just as a pacifier soothes a human baby, the Keepers’ fingers provide comfort to the youngest orphan elephants. At 2-yrs old, you’d think that Taabu might have grown out of finger-sucking, but it remains a favourite pastime for our affectionate boy: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/taabu

Wimbi, Wendy’s third daughter & the 51st elephant known to be born to an orphan we rescued & raised. Her birth this month reminds us that, in saving her mum all those years ago, we are helping forge a future generation of elephants. Full story at sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/w…

As the Nursery herd headed home tonight, Nyambeni decided she felt the need for speed! A little firebrand in the making, Nyambeni wasn't letting the fact she's one of the youngest & smallest if the herd deter her from winning a race to the stables & milk! sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/nursery-herd

Down but not out - in every sense. A giraffe's anatomy poses challenges: Instead of anaesthetising them, as we might an elephant, they are mildly sedated during treatment. We freed this bull from a snare, before it caused irreversible damage, & got him back up on his feet & away

All work & no play would make Zora a dull dog. Our four-pawed patrol partners are working dogs, but allowing them time to let off steam is vital for their health, focus & overall well-being. That’s why our Canine Unit operates on a work-rest-play basis: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/projects/canin…

Orphan elephant Kapei has found safety & security at Umani, he's also found a family formed of incredibly brave characters. Enkesha, shadowing Kapei here (& often), is one such : She almost lost her trunk to a snare - read her special story at sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/f…

Black rhino Maxwell is a picky eater, using his hooked top lip to browse (unlike white rhinos who take a lawn-mower approach). Max is the exception of our Orphans’ Project; due to his blindness, he can’t return to the wild, so he has a forever home with us sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/maxwell

It's not only Suguroi whose maternal side is being drawn out by the youngest orphans at the Nursery. Kinyei - who is very at ease in her own company - is finding little Mzinga's charms hard to resist. Kinyei was actually smaller than Mzinga when rescued sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/kinyei

It's the end of the day and all the rescued orphans are in their bedrooms. But that doesn't mean it's time for sleep, especially for one of the Nursery's biggest characters. Any guesses as to which giving us the side-eye owns this trunk?

Alamaya's rather obsessed with acacia trees, but mostly their pods. Baboons climb the trees & drop pods for the antelope. Alamaya objects to this partnership; he wants first dibs on them. So he's now in charge of shaking the trees to dislodge pods for all the orphans to enjoy!
