Poor Toto! All he wanted was his milk but Mayan was trying his hardest to steal his bottle. A reminder the crafty orphans aren't above a bit of skull mischief when it comes to the precious formula milk! Fortunately sweet Toto doesn’t seem to mind. sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/toto
This fragile calf is Lili, Loijuk’s first wild-born baby. In 2019, we had the honour of meeting this bundle of joy for the 1st time when Loijuk bought her to meet us. Fast forward to last month & Loijuk repeated the tradition with her newest calf, Lisha: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/l…
Latika is our Nursery’s 'little nose' & the proud owner of a shorter-than-average-trunk. Have no fear: it is perfectly normal & fully functional. To us, she is the epitome of courage. As you’ll read: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/latika, she’s overcome the trauma of being orphaned & snared.
Elephant mums - like ex orphan Naisula, here with her baby Nyx - are gentle, loving, & fiercely protective of their young. They set a wonderful example & should be celebrated, as should so many mums. Show yours the love on #mothersday by gifting an 🐘 sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/mothers-day-ad…
Mwashoti is a reminder that hope can triumph. Rescued after he suffered a terrible snare wound, the injury was so bad he could barely put any weight on his injured leg when he arrived at our Nursery. 9 years on, he’s unrecognisable as he roams wild & free: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/mwasho……
While some elephants are introverts, others are extroverts… unique Kamili is firmly in the former camp. She finds solace in calm, & likes to have quiet moments to herself, browsing on the edge of the herd. Discover why she came into our care: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/kamili
A herd of second chances roams the Kibwezi Forest. This time it’s friendly Mwashoti leading the gang who pops over to say hello. He lives wild (as part of Sonje’s ‘team’) but regularly comes back to visit. Discover Umani’s stories of resilience & hope: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/umani-springs-…
Vaarti, party of one! (Volume up to hear his little victory trumpet at the end 🔔)
Vaarti has an incredible rescue story. Knowing he was an orphan & in dire need of help, a wild elephant collected Vaarti & delivered him to our Ithumba stockades: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/vaarti
