Intimidation and harassment of politicians can put people off running for election
This could have serious consequences for our democracy
One obvious mitigation measure would be to remove candidates’ home addresses from election ballot papers
Jennifer Whitmore TD has a Bill to do that
There are now 13,866 people living in homeless emergency accommodation.
Tragically, 4,147 of these are children.
'The latest homelessness figures should not be treated as a cause for celebration by the Minister for Housing,' says Cian O'Callaghan T.D.

On 'Prime Time' last night, Minister of State Mary Butler admitted there are currently no plans to open 20 promised beds for adults with eating disorders.

CSO figures show there were 5,841 new dwelling completions in the first quarter of this year – a fall of 12.1% on the same three months of 2023.

The new Taoiseach made big and bold promises of 50,000 homes a year.
'It hasn’t taken long for the row back on these promises to begin,' says Cian O'Callaghan T.D.

Minister Ryan is trying to distance himself from Govt's objection to the landmark climate case taken in the ECHR by the 'Swiss Grannies' group.
'But his statement is a desperate attempt to rewrite history,' says Jennifer Whitmore TD

The Govt’s decision to oppose a seismic climate case at the ECHR is totally at odds with its climate ambition and rhetoric.
But the revelation that it was Minister Eamon Ryan who chose to intervene is truly astounding.
The Minister has serious questions to answer.

The unlawful killing verdict delivered to the Stardust families is a watershed moment.
The State must now accept responsibility for its failings in the case.
We cannot expect people to fight for every last inch of justice that they get.
The govt must deliver.

Today is #EarthDay2024
'A report highlighting an alarming increase in heat-related deaths in Europe over the past two decades lays bare the dire consequences of countries failing to meet climate action targets,' says Jennifer Whitmore TD
'We must do better.'

'Confirmation of a State apology to the #Stardust families is welcome,' says Sinéad Gibney, the Social Democrats' Dublin candidate in the European Elections.
'But it must mark a turning point in how victims of injustice are treated in this country.'

Communities all over Ireland are already feeling the effects of climate change.
But the govt's Climate and Nature Fund doesn't come into effect until 2026.
When is the govt going to take this global crisis seriously?
Holly Cairns TD
'The harassment of a public representative by a group of masked men is an affront to democracy and cannot go unchallenged,' says Holly Cairns TD
'What we are witnessing is not protest.
'This intimidation cannot be allowed to continue with impunity.'

The govt refuse to accept any criticism of their failing housing plan and claim the Social Democrats put forward no solutions to the crisis.
They’re just not listening.
In the last few weeks alone, Cian O'Callaghan T.D. put forward 255 housing amendments.
This govt just vote them all down.
Today is a watershed moment for the #Stardust families in their decades-long search for the truth, says Cian O'Callaghan T.D.
'The unlawful death verdicts will not take from the families’ enduring sense of loss but will hopefully bring them some comfort.'
