Housing is the number one issue facing Ireland.
Sinéad Gibney explains how she would use her seat in Europe to make an impact on this crisis.
There are mechanisms within the EU that can and should be used to support the ramping up of affordable homes here in Ireland.
Opinion polls have highlighted the unfairness of excluding Social Democrats candidates from RTE’s EU debates
“Our Ireland South candidate Susan Doyle is in contention to win a seat.
“Despite this, she has been excluded from the debate,” says Holly Cairns TD

Migrants sleeping rough in Dublin's streets is a direct consequence of government policy.
But there are buildings within the govt's portfolio that could be repurposed for temporary accommodation.
Moving people from street to street will not solve this issue.

RTÉ has told us that 2 of our 3 European candidates will be excluded from their televised debates on the European elections.
It’s blatantly unfair to exclude the Social Democrats in these crucial debates.
People deserve a choice and locking us out of these debates is not acceptable.
Has the Taoiseach taken a walk along the Grand Canal lately?
If he had, he’d see that his govt’s failure to plan for migration has resulted in one of Dublin’s best loved public amenities being fenced off
Does the govt intend to erect barricades all over the city?

It is now more than two years since Cian O'Callaghan T.D. introduced his Ban on Sex for Rent Bill 2022.
Govt did not allow Bill to progress but undertook to bring in their own legislation.
There is still no sign of it.
Vulnerable renters are being failed.

HSE’s recruitment freeze is preventing the recruitment of funded specialist nursing posts, says Róisín Shortall
'It is absurd that posts funded in Budget 2022 are caught up in the current moratorium.
'Short-sighted decision is impacting patient care.'

In the Dáil today, Jennifer Whitmore TD urged the Taoiseach to regulate the sale of nicotine pouches.
'These products pose a serious risk to the health and wellbeing of children and are a gateway to nicotine addiction.'

State’s renewable energy availability will be insufficient to meet all data centre demands up to 2030.
'There must be a pause on data centres until a strategic analysis of their impact on energy demand is carried out,' says Jennifer Whitmore TD

Some landlords are being advised to use a loophole in the system to avoid rent regulations
Landlords who leave their property empty for 2 years can jack up their rents far beyond the 2% cap
The Social Democrats have put forward a bill to close this loophole
Will the Govt support it?
Just one year into the free schoolbooks scheme, the Govt is quietly rowing back on its commitment.
'Parents must be reassured they will not face extra costs due to Dept of Education reducing the annual grant for primary schools,' says Jennifer Whitmore TD
