Thunderstorms last night. I got the tarp up in a flood channel of the River Garry a minute before the rain started. This is a wonderful place filled with Wood Anemone and Dog’s Mercury growing out from deposited sand. I slept well. Heading off to work now.

April’s weather: A story in three graphs.

The monthly mean maximum temperature was pretty much bang on average. However, for many of us the well above average rainfall and below average hours of sunshine made it *feel* cold.

Spare a thought for southern Scotland and Cumbria.

Interesting to see how the regeneration around isolated pines balloons out on the side of the tree opposite to the prevailing wind. With a prevailing SW wind the regeneration is on the NE side of the tree. Highlights how seed source influences the distribution of regeneration.

This is the UK's snowiest place, photographed on Saturday. The location is Garbh Choire Mòr (big, rough corrie), situated at the UK's 3rd highest mountain Braeriach. Some people might be surprised to see so much snow here, given that we're now into late April. (1/4)

21.04.2024 A morning of rain at Alder Bay on Loch Ericht - so glad I climbed Ben Alder & Bheoil on Saturday. A clearing afternoon as I paddled to the dam. Walked out to Loch Rannoch.

Calm conditions for a paddle to Alder Bay from Dalwhinnie on Saturday. Wonderful expansive views from Ben Alder & Bheoil. There’s still a lot of snow about.

It's still winter here in the high Cairngorms. Snowing all morning, summit temperatures of minus 3 C and poor visibility today. Winter is not over. :)

Nice way to start the weekend. Walked to the wood in pouring rain yesterday afternoon. The winds were fresh so I was glad to find shelter at the bottom of the wood.

A super Easter weekend over in climbing Carn na Nathrach & Dhomhnuill from Glen Scaddle. There was a wonderful feeling of remoteness in amongst in the glens. So many summits to see all around!

04.03.2024 Sgurr nan Coireachan & Sgurr Thuilm. A day with strong juxtapositions of temperatures. The cold north wind was sharp and bitter while the sunshine in hollows was delicious and warm. So nice to see the sun again.
