Second, requiring the Government to consult on public access to information about trusts.

Last week an investigation from Andy Summers et al found that the real owners of 1000s of UK properties remain secret, many hiding behind trusts.

Great timing for this research by Andy Summers et al. The government could close these loopholes, especially regarding transparency for trusts, in the economic crime bill ammendments this week.

This is really cool. Causal evidence showing that access to administrative government data improves the quantity of research economists produce, but also increases policy impact (measured by citations in government & international org docs).

Way more the UK could do in this area

Exciting to see the maps from our paper on the UK's global economic elite (w/ Arun Advani, Mike Savage, Andy Summers) featured in this exhibition, alongside Charles Booth's famous poverty maps!

If it exists, Treasury should publish their analysis in full so we can all see their methodology rather than leaking titbits to press. Happy to stand by our data/methods. Imagine if we'd said here's our number but we won't tell you how we got it!

Being serious about growth is not really compatible with idea that our tax system is basically fine as it is...

I'm worried if Labour actually thinks this. Whatever your view on levels of taxation, current structure is a mess and clearly a big drag on economy.

Just on those pension changes: looking at the breakdown of number of beneficiaries🧮, their incomes💰, and where they are🗺️ is fascinating

Too bad researchers aren't allowed to share results based on public use admin data for 10days. Am sure journo+policy folk are happy to wait

If you care about measuring poverty & inequality, you need to get your head round this Office for National Statistics (ONS) consultation, which is open for another week assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…

Big idea = leaning more heavily on real data used by the govt, & merging the surveys we rely on now

Strange headline BBC News (UK), which doesn't line up much with the content
