I just hope they don’t delay the bill to prevent the moon from crashing into the earth and other things that aren’t happening.

It would be wise of Speaker Mike Johnson to reach into Republican history and refuse to be a party of mere negation, and to correct the evil of Ukraine being left to its own devices. That is, to allow the House to vote on aid that would let a free people defend themselves.

May 8, 1899: TR replied to Sen. Platt's accusation that his plan to tax public franchises enjoyed by corporations was raw Bryanism:

'I do not believe that it is wise or safe for us as a party to take refuge in mere negation and to say that there are no evils to be corrected.'

With the Mayorkas impeachment trial pending, I’m reposting this thread on the 1876 impeachment of Secretary of War William Belknap. Both are examples of impeachment as a partisan weapon, though of course they aren’t exact parallels.

The largest child-trafficking ring in the world is run by Russia in Ukraine.

Speaker Mike Johnson enables it.

To stop it, he simply needs to let his colleagues vote on aid to Ukraine, so it can defend itself.

He cares more about his job.

Is this what Jesus would do? Enable evil?

Moments ago, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi on current Speaker Mike Johnson's being scared to do the right thing because the Freedom Caucus threatens to vacate the chair:

'Why are we there? We're there to *do* a job, not *keep* a job.'

A year before President McKinley's assassination, a former State Department clerk sent him a warning letter, asking him to guard his life. 'Not since the sad Good Friday of 1865 . . . has the feeling of apprehension so possessed me as it does at the present time.'

And here is another one, explaining how ballot-harvesting is not stealing elections. In fact, it can’t. Good stuff.

This response by Stephen Richer is an excellent account of why mail ballots are not a source of fraud. You can’t just invent voters. You can’t just steal ballots and expect not to get caught. You certainly can’t hack a computer system, because recounts look at paper ballots.

This is viewpoint diversity:

Asking if Biden should be continuing Trump’s tariffs, especially when he wants to cut inflation.

Asking if opposing the Japanese purchase of U.S. Steel will lead to less investment in our steel production.

To those who call Sen. Tuberville (R, Russia) a traitor, I say: technically there must be a state of war for there to be treason.

For those who call Sen. Tuberville the stupidest senator, I say: He’s representing the interests of his constituency in the FSB the best he can.
