Having a theoretical (alleged) understanding of certain concepts and ideas about/by Black people doesn’t equate to relating to Black people in anti-colonial, anti-racist ways. It is so painfully obvious when engaging with people who study us but don’t humanize or respect us. /2

This is happening to literally all tropical / coastal spaces in countries and cities with a majority POC population. And it’s completely fucked up and a symptom of neo colonialism that is perpetuated through the tourism industry.

any form of travel that doesn’t directly engage with the dispossession of indigenous land by imperial powers globally is just colonialism through tourism :/
