To put the Columbia protests story in context, in 2018 and 2019 far-right shooters massacred 12 Jews in 2 separate synagogues in America. I don’t remember this level of hysteria from our political or media elites, or ex-Meta execs saying they were fleeing to Israel to be safe.

I'm a Jew-loving Jew. Anti-Semitism is never ok. Here's what is not anti-Semitism: Peaceful protest, criticism of the Israeli government, calling for an independent Palestine, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, using the term apartheid to describe Israel, questioning Zionism.

Shai Davidai is a liar.

Despite what he & Bari Weiss want you to believe, Jewish Americans are deeply divided on Zionism.

“95% support it”? Hell no.

's president, fresh from her failed crackdown on nonviolent student protesters, tries to distract attention by canceling in-person classes. She worsens the crisis atmosphere -- in the hope that her failure(s) will be forgotten. Mondoweiss Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine BC/CU Jewish Voice for Peace

Columbia could've avoided all of this if they'd just left the initial student protesters alone.

Instead, they went after peaceful student protesters and sparked a backlash that invited lots of outside protesters to come onto the campus—including unabashedly antisemitic ones.

If you support how these folks voted, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to let them know.

They will be under relentless pressure and attack. It is important to show support - on the inside, it can often feel like there isn’t.

Call, write, post. It makes a difference.

My usual TV beat is food, but I'm also a current Columbia University student, and I'm so sad & so frustrated with the way student protests on our campus are being reported. This will be imperfect, but I can't watch things that are so contrary to what I've actually seen and stay silent. 🧵

Thank you 4 your principled stance on this issue Katherine Franke Shafik's performance was an appalling deference to the new McCarthyites in DC. You deserve an apology, and so do the Columbia students that were suspended, evicted, and arrested. As an alum I am outraged Columbia University

the reports of antisemitism and harassment directed at Jewish people at Columbia are really disturbing.

silencing protest and the admin targeting Muslim and pro-Palestinian students is also really disturbing. and I think acknowledging and rejecting both is imperative.

Key point.

Columbia isn’t allowing proper access to reporters — some limited workarounds — and all sorts of nonsense, including confusing inside and outside of the university, is circulating.

A student protest is going national on the basis of very distorted impressions.

Friends, please keep shining a light on Columbia & Yale and the criminalization of students there. But where is the outrage when this happens at @cuny & Brooklyn College-when working class students of color are criminalized instead of Ivy League students?thenation.com/article/societ…

helpful context for the many not physically present yet spreading information about the dynamics at Columbia. This would suggest that the choice of Columbia’s president to mobilize NYPD did precisely the opposite of its ostensible purpose - and in fact endangered Jewish students

This is genocide apologia from Adams to Biden, smearing a movement with substantial Jewish participation and leadership as “antisemitic.” It will do nothing but alienate the Democratic Party from its own base. This is pure disinformation and it’s shameful and absurd.

Our team spent long hours reporting on and around Columbia’s campus on Thursday & Friday. I want to clear some stuff up. I didn’t see a single instance of violence or aggression on the lawn or at the student encampment. The student-led protest was peaceful and often very quiet…

All the stuff in the news about protests on US universities keeps reminding me that Israel blew up every single university in Gaza, and most of it's schools too.

for students who want to build encampments, please don’t make your encampments about solidarity with Columbia.
this is about solidarity with Gaza & Palestinian Liberation over anything else. Use us as an example to escalate but we should not be the focus, it’s about Palestine.
