Crews are dismantling Iron Gate, Copco 1 & J.C Boyle dams on the Klamath River. The project will reopen 400 miles of salmon habitat. For the 1st time in more than 100 years, fish are expected to spawn above the dams in 2024. The former reservoirs are already greening up.

These photos of the middle Klamath River were taken on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from the Klamath-Trinity confluence to the Salmon River mouth. In terms of dissolved oxygen and turbidity, river conditions remain normal for this time of year.

The Klamath River continues to clear up. Water quality is pretty much normal for this time of year. These photos were taken this morning between the Klamath estuary to the Glen. Happy Friday!

This week, tribal leaders from four Tribes & the California Dept of Fish & Wildlife celebrated the release of approx 100k yearling coho salmon & 400k Chinook smolts into great water conditions in the Klamath River below Iron Gate Dam. These fish will return to an undammed river.
