In a quirky way, spring is coming. We used to be losing three and a half minutes of daylight per day, but from now on it's less than three minutes. So still losing daylight but the curve is trending upward, toward spring.

This tiny hemlock has started a long journey toward being a future giant of the forest. The elegant camping fork is for scale. Hemlocks were common around here until they were cut because their bark is used in tanning leather. This one is in the Gatineau Hills.

Good chance to see the space station tonite over Ottawa. Appears around 9:55/9:56 pm low in the WSW, and goes almost directly overhead ending in ESE. Clear white light visible 6 minutes. (Many sightings this time of year are later at night than this one.)
