When I asked the families I met in Djibo #BurkinaFaso how we can help, they said:

“Please do one simple thing for us: Open that road so that food can come through for our children.”

A devastating conflict and a dangerously changing climate have led hundreds of thousands of people to seek safety here. This is usually a busy market town, but the markets are empty and there is no food.

Urgent assistance and improved access are needed.

In humanitarian crises and emergencies, women and girls suffer the most -- because of their gender.

That’s why I’m pleased to welcome UN Women into the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC). We need to advance gender equality across all humanitarian responses.

The level of need in Ethiopia is staggering.

Even before hostilities resumed in August, 13 million people required food & other support across Tigray, Amhara & Afar.

All parties must allow & facilitate the rapid & unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief for civilians.

The situation in Ethiopia is spiraling out of control.

The social fabric is being ripped apart & civilians are paying a horrific price.

Hostilities in Tigray must end now – including the immediate withdrawal and disengagement of Eritrean armed forces from Ethiopia.

Prevention is better than cure, or in UN speak, acting ahead of a crisis is the smarter way to deliver humanitarian aid.
