If you are curious on the 'why' of this, USGS earthquake alerts are automated in the USGS ShakeAlert zones of the West Coast. The system isn't built out for other parts of the country at this point. The alert the east coast sent was from emergency management.
We appreciate the hard work of the #ShakeAlert field technicians who always keep your West Coast #EEW system in tip top working order. Thank you! PNSN California Governor's Office of Emergency Services Berkeley Seismo Lab Caltech Seismo Lab #EarthquakeWarningCA California Geological Survey
