In this week's newsletter we spotlighted John Keir Cross's THE OTHER PASSENGER (1944), a wide-ranging collection, from traditional ghost stories to contes cruels, tales of dark fantasy & surreal nightmare & perhaps the best story about a ventriloquist and his dummy ever written.

Lots of great responses to our question about '90s horror novels yesterday. Surprising how many of the books are 500-600 pages, though. Entire countries must have been deforested back then to publish all this stuff.

Our email newsletter went out this morning to the cool kids who subscribe. Among other things, it mentioned our $2.99 ebook deals and a reminder to preorder this exciting new title, a rare supernatural novel from 1965: valancourtbooks.com/the-visitors-1…

We've been doing a lot of '70s and '80s horror reprints. What are the out-of-print '90s horror books we've missed? You remember, the ones you read while waiting sipping a Crystal Pepsi, waiting for The X-Files to start?

The package deal on Paperbacks from Hell is getting a bit unwieldy with 21 books, so we're now offering smaller bite-size packages, for those looking to start their PFH collection without having to mortgage the farm. Get four- or five-book sets & save 20%: valancourtbooks.com/paperbacksfrom…

This is such a great book, a true horror classic, long out of print & $50+ for used copies. Seriously, this is a book any fan or connoisseur of horror/occult/supernatural fiction should have in their library. More about James Blish's BLACK EASTER here: valancourtbooks.com/black-easter-1…

When you're a character in a horror novel and you go to meet your mother-in-law for the first time and this is the conversation, I think it's what you'd call a red flag.

I don't think we're often (ever?) in the L.A. Times, but our reissue of James Robert Baker's BOY WONDER was featured there as one of the top novels about Hollywood. Which, of course, it is. It's also probably the funniest book I've ever read: latimes.com/entertainment-…

Suspect some of our books would probably sell better if Amazon's search worked. When you look for Kenneth Martin's AUBADE, it displays page after page of bras. Try to find one of CHB Kitchin's books and it autocorrects to 'kitchen' and shows cookbooks. Sigh.

We are signing so many amazing new books to our list -- we think you're going to be really excited about some of them. There's a catch, though. To keep churning out these great books, we need to sell a few of the current ones. If you're looking for a good read, grab one of these!

Reading an interesting article on Michael McDowell, complete with rare photos, from Alabama Heritage magazine. McDowell fans should pick it up. Though he might have been surprised to learn he 'adopted the LGBT lifestyle' (because there's only one, right?) alabamaheritage.com/issue-151-wint…

The German publisher Festa is doing great work bringing our books out for a German-speaking audience, including three new ones that showed up today. (Is it just me or does it feel like the film version of DER AUKTIONATOR should star Arnold Schwarzenegger?)
